Saffron

Saffron, although a costly spice, is widely used in the Indian Sub-continent in a vast range of dishes - in particular rice and sweets. Saffron is the slender, dried, reddish-brown, flattened stigma of a flower of the iris family. It has a characteristic aromatic odour and a peculiar, exotic, bitter taste. It takes almost 100,000 hand-picked blooms to obtain just one Kilogram of dried saffron! The spice is called Azafrán in Spanish, is grown and widely used here in Spain. It is this Indo-Spanish Connection that led us to call our restaurant Saffron!

 

Saffron Indian Restaurant & Bar brings you Authentic Indian Cuisine with original home style cooking to savour all palates. Open since 2003, our chefs originally from Gujarat and Punjab in India offer you a wide range of delicacies combined with a blend of aromatic spices, fresh coriander, ginger, garlic and green chillies. Contrary to popular belief, Indian food is not and does not have to be spiced overly hot to be enjoyed. In fact, the art in Indian cookery lies in the delicacy of the herbs and spices that are used for each type of dish. In order to be able to satisfy all our patrons, we offer different levels of heat for almost all of the items on this menu. You can have spicy hot (Garam Masala – a combination of dry spices roasted and ground) or you can go for the green chilli hot! For the less adventurous we serve the Korma, Pasanda and the Patia dishes.

Our knowledgeable and friendly staff will be pleased to familiarize you with the various levels of spicing and also assist you in the selection of your dinner menu. Please do not hesitate to consult your server.
